Failures News Watch Launched

Not all failures are catastrophic in nature such as those that  result  in complete or even partial  collapse of a building.    The definition of  ” failure” used by Building Failures Forum is any system or building component that does not perform as intended.  Causes of such failures range from design and construction problems to material defects, overloads, natural and man made disasters or any number of other problems.  Using that definition, the number of building system failures that occur each day is enormous and quite varied in nature.

Failures News Watch is the section of Building Failures Forum that tracks and  links the reader to a representative set of up to date set of types of failures as well as those building and structural failures making headlines.  As more information becomes available, some of these “failures in the news” will become featured Building Failures Forum posts  or more indepth case studies on Failures Wiki.  News postings and events can be viewed using the link above or from the Failures News Watch tab on any of the forum pages.

Thanks for the post. Hope to keep you updated with the latest information.

Relative to the snow related roof collapse on the link your provided, many areas of the country are beginning to see the snow pack build up this winter from multiple winter storms. Roof structures that are deteriorated or have been poorly maintained, or those that are susceptible to drifting or have poor drainage among a number of other factors should be watched for signs of failure and appropriate action taken to clear the snow. But, clearing snow from a roof is dangerous so call in a professional.
